EyeFi + iPhone personal hotspot + ShutterSnitch works!

I am currently testing different solutions that will give me an alternative tollkit that can be used when 5D Mark II + 17" MacBook is a bit heavy...

Image

Right now I'm testing this combination:

- My current phone (iPhone 4)
- A canon SX230HS
- An EyeFi X2 8GB SD-card
- ShutterSnitch app on the phone

The SX230HS is small enough to be way more practical than the 5D for certain trips. And good enough to be worth carrying in addition to the camera already in the iPhone.

But I also need the speed and simplicity of publishing that the camera in the phone gives me. So I was plesantly surprised when I could conclude that my EieFi-card talks directly to my phone when the personal hotspot is activated.

If I run ShutterSnitch on the phone while the hotspot is active it happily receives images directly from the camera when I turn it on.

There are some issues with a lost connection after some inactivity but I'll keep experimenting.

The images in this post are snapped with the SX230HS, transferred directly to the phone, edited and and added to the article. Everything on the go.

The worst iPhone lens ever. Or?

Image

A couple of months ago I bought this telephoto lens from Dealextreme. I had very low expectations and my initial tests proved that it was even worse than I had in mind when ordering.

0image

As you can see from the image the distortion is horrible and it doesn't even cover the whole image.

But today I discovered a scene that would benefit a bit of telephoto.

...the machine between the houses. So I mounted the lens and did some experimenting.

I got closer. No doubt about that. And with Picture Show, Tilt Shift Generator, Camera+ and Photo FX I could have a bit of fun as well.

So, sometimes bad telephoto is better than no telephoto...

Quick App Review: Touch Retouch vs. Photo Fixer

You want to remove something from an image on your iPhone? As always, there's an app for that.

Here's a quick test of two...

Image 1: Remove the path

Touch Retouch
Brush a red layer on what you want to remove.

When you are satisfied hit "go". Wait. And:

Photo Fixer
On this image it kept giving me a message about the fact that the area was too large. So I gave up.

Problem with too large selection. I decided to do it in several steps.

And got this result:

My conclusion after this quick test is that Touch Retouch is easier to use, is faster and gives better results than Photo Fixer.

But Photo Fixer is the new kid on the block and will probably mature as it gets updated etc. So keep an eye on both of them.

Get out and snap some images!

Right now it's autumn here in Norway. Perfect time to get those colorful shots.

And you don't need much.

How to make a cool keychain

Recently I bought some Super Mario keychains to my sons.

Img_5788

They loved them, but didn't understand that stupid keychain thing. And removed it so they could play with the figures.

Img_5792

Leaving me with all these:

Img_5794

To make a long story short: I had a small bag of keys from an old Grass Valley image switcher lying in my drawer. And got an idea. Dremel-time:

And ta-daaa:

Img_5804

Of course the keys regarding chroma keying are extra cool as keychains:

Img_5816

...and if you don't have such keys you can use keys from another keyboard or something else entirely:

So there you are. Trendy and environmentally friendly use of old junk.

Testing, testing 1,2,3: Posterous-to-wordpress

1000000885

Sometimes it's nice to be able to post articles by email. And this is a test to see how Posterous handles automatic posting to Wordpress. How about support for Norwegian characters: æøå ÆØÅ? That used to be a pain when using the Postie-plugin for WP. And how about the attached and geotagged image from my iPhone 4?
